Made in Africa Tours & Safaris - Zimbabwe Luxury Yoga Safari - Vic Falls River Lodge Walkway

Spend seven days exploring some of the best wilderness areas in Zimbabwe, while enjoying the rest and relaxation that comes with a morning yoga practice and afternoon meditation in untouched African bush. You will spend the first three days in the world-renowned Hwange National Park, with its abundant and diverse wildlife, taking in the pristine wilderness from your remote luxury lodge. The remaining days are spent in a private game lodge set in the Zambezi National Park, with views of the spray from the mighty Victoria Falls.

A yoga safari offers the chance to practise yoga in some of the most beautiful places in southern Africa, while enjoying the magic and sense of connection that comes with a daily yoga and meditation practice. Reconnect, transform and inspire yourself through movement and breath.

Would you like to host your own African yoga retreat?  We handle all the on-the-ground logistics, as well as source the best locations to match your requirements and budget. Contact us to discuss.

Days 1 – 3: HWANGE NATIONAL PARK (The Private Hide)
You will be met by a representative at Victoria Falls International Airport or Livingstone International Airport, and will transfer to Hwange National Park, and your home for the next three nights, The Hide. Situated on a private concession on the eastern boundary of the Park, The Hide offers the ultimate pristine wilderness experience coupled with luxury, comfort and utter privacy.

Your days will be spent on game drives and game walks, with either a sunrise yoga practice, or a yoga practice after an early morning game drive. The Hide is situated on a permanent waterhole, the only source of water for a good-sized area, which means you may not have to stray much further than your patio (or yoga mat) for amazing game viewing! There is also the opportunity to go on late afternoon and evening game drives, as well as game walks (an exciting experience in Big Five country!).

Each afternoon there will be a guided meditation, before an evening game drive.

Days 4 – 7: VICTORIA FALLS (Victoria Falls River Lodge)
On day four we leave Hwange and make our way to the mighty Victoria Falls, and Victoria Falls River Lodge, set on the banks of the Zambezi River. Your accommodation is a spacious, luxury tent. Each tent has its own private viewing deck, which offers spectacular views of the Falls, as well as wildlife coming down to the river to drink, and hippos snorting and wallowing in the river.

Mornings will start with an early yoga practice, followed by any number of activities offered by the lodge – boat cruises, game drives, helicopter flips, and for the more adventurous, white river rafting and bungee jumping. Late afternoons will once again be for guided meditation.

The safari ends on day seven, when you will be transferred to Livingstone International Airport, or Victoria Falls International Airport.

Living in Johannesburg, Jenny Russell has been practising Ashtanga yoga since 2009, and has had the privilege of studying with many senior teachers from around the world, as well as travelling to Mysore, India.

Teaching since 2011, and in particular at Mysore Yoga JHB since 2014, Jenny hopes to transfer her deep love for Ashtanga yoga, and inspire a committed, transformative daily practice.

Host your own African yoga retreat.

What can you expect from a yoga safari?

A yoga safari combines both the natural beauty of the African bush with the physical and mental benefits of yoga. Yoga practice while on safari will be light and focussed on connecting with the breath and sensation in the body. The focus will be on instilling a deep sense calm and relaxation. You will be gently guided through a sequence of asana (postures), while afternoon meditations will offer an introduction to mindfulness practices.

No prior yoga or meditation experience is necessary.
