BOTSWANA ROUNDABOUT
A 9 day around Botswana lodge safari, exploring the spectacular northern and central Botswana wilderness areas. On this once in a lifetime trip you will discover the lush oasis of the Okavango Delta, and see the famous Chobe and Moremi National Park regions, and their vast diversity of plant and animal species. You will enjoy the stark landscape and marvel at the magnificence of the black-maned lions of the remote Central Kalahari Game Reserve. This tour offers a truly in-depth safari experience in magnificent Botswana.
SUGGESTED ITINERARY:
Day 1 & 2: CHOBE NATIONAL PARK (Chobe Safari Lodge or Chobe Bush Lodge)
Your highly skilled, professionally qualified guide will meet you at Kasane International Airport, Botswana. From here we will depart for Chobe National Park, and either Chobe Safari Lodge or Chobe Bush Lodge (accomodation dependent on availability).
On Botswana’s far northern border lie the Kwando, Linyanti and Chobe River systems that form an exquisite mosaic of lakes, islands, channels and floodplains. Part of this system is the Chobe National Park, famous for its immense herds of elephant and buffalo, which you will witness on game drives and boat cruises.
Both luxurious lodges are situated in Kasane on the banks of the Chobe River and share a border with Chobe National Park. Both are also a stone’s throw away from the meeting point of Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia, therefore offering an excellent getaway location to Chobe, Victoria Falls or Caprivi.
Accommodation at both lodges consists of spacious, modern en suite rooms, each with air-conditioning, TVs and safes, as well as magnificent views over the Chobe National Park.
Your days here will be spent on boat cruises and game drives, taking in the sights and sounds of this beautiful piece of African wilderness.
Day 3 & 4: MOREMI GAME RESERVE (Rra Dinare Camp)
On day three of this around Botswana lodge safari we will fly south, over the interior of Chobe National Park and Moremi Game Reserve a private concession on the southern boundary of Moremi Game Reserve. On this 67,000 acre private wilderness area we find Rra Dinare Camp which overlooks the Gomoti River and its flood plains. The camp has been designed to embrace the natural surroundings. This is a 100% eco-friendly camp featuring the latest in solar and waste technology.
Accommodation is in beautiful appointed luxury canvas safari tents with en-suite facilities and expansive private decks overlooking the floodplains for an uninterrupted game viewing experience. The communal area is an open, thatched space that allows you to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings, whilst watching wildlife and birds from the comfort of an armchair or sipping a drink from the bar. A swimming pool is also available to while away the time on those hot summer afternoons.
Game viewing is prolific. The Gomoti River system attracts a wide variety of game. Familiar favourites include: Elephant, Buffalo, Giraffe, Kudu, Impala, Tsessebe, Hippo, Crocodile, Genet, Honey Badger and a host of Plains Game. Rare Antelope breeds including Roan, Sable & Eland, not normally seen in the Okavango region, occur here. As the Gomoti is the main water source in the area, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Wild Dog come down to the riverside to drink and hunt, of course!
The locations and views are spectacular with the classic flooding of the Okavango across the adjacent seasonal floodplains. For those keen on bird-watching, the combination of the wetlands and the drier Acacia and Mopane veldt provide a perfect habitat for a variety of aquatic and savanna.
You will explore this magnificent area on morning, afternoon & night game drives (on & off road), seasonal water activities on Gomoti river and game walks available depending on local conditions.
Day 5 & 6: OKAVANGO DELTA (Gunn’s Camp or Moremi Crossing)
On day five we head south via light aircraft to the intimate Gunn’s Camp or Moremi Crossing (camp choice dependent on availability), both luxurious water-based camps, overlooking Chief’s Island and Moremi’s game-rich seasonal floodplains.
Gunn’s Camp is one of the last few remaining luxury, vintage safari camps. Set under leafy palms and African Ebony, the camp blends seamlessly with its surroundings and, despite its high levels of comfort, does not isolate guests from the sights and sounds of the wilderness.
Accommodation consists of six fully furnished, deluxe Kenya-style meru tents with en suite bathrooms, featuring standalone baths and private outdoor showers. Set on raised platforms overlooking the Delta plains, Gunn’s Camp is ideal for honeymooners or guests looking for a more romantic and intimate safari experience.
Moremi Crossing is a new camp with 16 luxury tents, built on a palm-fringed island surrounded by Moremi’s game-rich seasonal floodplains and also overlooks Chief’s Island. Moremi Crossing is a new style, 100% eco-friendly safari camp combining luxury with simplicity. Accommodation consists of 16 en suite spacious tents on raised decks, each with their own veranda.
Both camps have spacious, shaded and elevated communal areas, with spectacular views over the Boro River to Chief’s Island. Guests have access to the elevated bar, lounge and dining room, campfire boma and swimming pool.
At both camps your days will be spent being silently poled through the winding Delta channels on mekoro (traditional dug-out canoes), on game walks on Chief’s Island in the Moremi Game Reserve, and on motorboat excursions.
Day 7 & 8: CENTRAL KALAHARI GAME RESERVE (Tau Pan Camp)
Day seven sees the safari head to the starkly beautiful Central Kalahari Game Reserve (via light aircraft), and Tau Pan Camp. The area is known for it’s severe beauty, desert-adapted animals, plains antelope, and black-maned lions. Your home for two nights, Tau Pan, is the first safari camp to be built in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and the model of ecological sensitivity.
Tau Pan accommodates up to eighteen guests in luxuriously designed thatched units on raised decks. The camp offers astonishing views from the ridge of an ancient sand dune, an unusual experience in a land as flat as Botswana, and overlooks the famous Tau Pan, known for its simple, remote beauty.
Activities offered at Tau Pan are game drives, day trips to the well-known Deception Valley, and the Sunday, Piper and Passarge Pans. Dining out under the dazzling night skies, bush brunches on Tau Pan, and nature walks with Bushman trackers are some of the other highlights you can look forward to.
Day 9: MAUN
On the morning of day eleven we head back to Maun via light aircraft.
