Mumbo Island Lodge
Embrace your inner Robinson Crusoe at Mumbo Island Lodge! There’s no better way to wake up than watching a shimmering sunrise over Lake Malawi, followed by a dip in its tranquil waters.
The idyllic Mumbo Island Camp is situated on a pristine and otherwise-deserted island in Lake Malawi, itself lying within an exclusive concession area and part of the Lake Malawi National Park, a World Heritage Site. This park was the first freshwater marine reserve in the world and is home to more than 500 species of fish, of which over 90% are endemic.
Mumbo Lodge adheres to the principles of eco-architecture and is constructed of timber, thatch and reed, and blends into the surrounding vegetation and large granite boulders. The tents are set on raised platforms with separate eco-toilets and bucket showers, all designed with the preservation of the natural environment in mind.
This is barefoot luxury at its best! You can spend your days at Mumbo doing little more than lying in hammocks or gently floating on the lake, but if you are feeling more energetic, there are many activities to enjoy including kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving and bird watching.
