Kruger National Park Game Drive | Highlights of South Africa

Enjoy a Big Five safari in the pristine wilderness of South Africa’s premier game reserve, the Kruger National Park, before travelling to Cape Town to explore its many and diverse attractions, including a day tour of the spectacular Cape Peninsula, with Chapman’s Peak Drive, Cape Point Nature Reserve and Hout Bay as fantastic highlights. Finish off your amazing 10 day trip to South Africa with a relaxing journey along the scenic splendor of the acclaimed Garden Route.

ITINERARY

Day 1: JOHANNESBURG to KRUGER NATIONAL PARK (Protea Hotel – Kruger Gate)
On the morning of day one you will be collected from your hotel and head east to the Mpumalanga region. After freshening up at the lodge, we will make our way into the world famous Kruger National Park, and spend the afternoon spotting wildlife. The reserve offers some of the best game viewing opportunities in the world, and you will soon realise why a visit to the Kruger National Park is considered the highlight of many people’s trips to Africa.

Day 2: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK (Protea Hotel – Kruger Gate)
This morning is a highlight for any nature lover. Your morning game drive inside the Kruger National Park will be conducted in an open 4WD game viewing vehicle with an experience english speaking guide. An open game drive vehicle allows you to feel closer to nature, and your guide will try to find you some excellent wildlife sightings. You will return to the lodge in the late morning to freshen up and enjoy an (own expense) lunch.
In the afternoon you will enjoy another game drive inside Kruger National Park in your touring vehicle before returning to your lodge in the early evening for a well deserved dinner.

Day 3: MPUMALANGA (Protea Hotel – Kruger Gate)
Enjoy breakfast before setting out to explore the magnificent Panorama Route, one of the most scenic routes in the region. This drive offers glorious views, spectacular landscapes and exquisite waterfalls. Visit magnificent sights such as God’s Window, the Three Rondawels, the Blyde River Canyon (the third largest canyon of its kind in the world), Bourkes Luck Potholes, and the delightful village of Graskop, one of the first gold mining camps in the country.

Day 4: KRUGER  to JOHANNESBURG to CAPE TOWN (Protea Hotel – Sea Point)
We will have breakfast before starting the return journey to Johannesburg. We will arrive in Johannesburg, at OR Tambo International Airport, at approximately 14h30, and catch a flight to Cape Town. On arrival in Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa, and the home of Table Mountain, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax, or explore the city (un-guided).

Day 5: CAPE TOWN (Protea Hotel – Sea Point)
Today we will join a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. Drive through Sea Point, the seaside village of Hout Bay, and then to Cape Point where it is said that the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. We will make our way back to Cape Town through the historic naval base of Simon’s Town and Muizenberg, and visit the remarkable and picturesque Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a centre for the preservation of the region’s unique flora.

Day 6: CAPE TOWN (UNESCORTED) (Protea Hotel – Sea Point)
Day six is yours to do with what you will. Perhaps enjoy a trip up Table Mountain (own account), or simply explore hustle and bustle of the city. Although a small city, Cape Town is packed with sightseeing attractions, and excellent bars, cafes and restaurants, as well as colourful craft markets. There is also the Two Oceans Aquarium and Robben Island to explore, or alternatively relax on one of Cape Town’s many famous and picturesque beaches.

Day 7: CAPE TOWN to MOSSELL BAY (Diaz Hotel & Resort)
After an early morning departure from Cape Town, we’ll travel along Sir Lowry’s Pass, with its magnificent views from the top, to Grabouw and Elgin, a lush landscape surrounded by majestic mountains. Our journey continues to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. The area has largely been untouched and unexplored with its rugged coast line being the graveyard for many a ship. The historic Cape Agulhas Lighthouse is considered the icon that signifies the tip of Africa and that creates unforgettable memories. After this thrilling experience, we continue via historic Swellendam, the third oldest town in South Africa, to Mossel Bay, from where the Garden Route extends to the Storms River in the east.

Day 8: MOSSELL BAY to OUDTSHOORN (La Plume Guesthouse)
After breakfast we continue our journey to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world and home to the spectacular limestone caverns of the Cango Caves. Visit an Ostrich Farm for a guided tour. Enjoy a wine tasting at a local wine estate before setting off on a tour of the Cango Caves, one of the world’s great natural wonders, sculpted by nature through the ages.

Day 9: OUDTSHOORN to KNYSNA (Rex Hotel)
After and unhurried breakfast, we ravel over the Outeniqua Pass to George, the sixth oldest town in South Africa, with many historical landmarks such as the Slave Tree and King Edward VII Library building; said to be the best example of Edwardian architecture in the town. The tour travels via Wilderness, an attractive holiday resort to Knysna, known as the oyster box of South Africa, nestling on the banks of a beautiful lagoon in the heart of the Garden Route.

Enjoy a lagoon cruise to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, where you can take a trailer ride to the top of the Western Head to enjoy panoramic views of the town and lagoon, returning for lunch under the milkwood trees. The afternoon is at leisure to further explore this charming town set around a natural harbour lagoon. Overnight in Knysna

Day 10: KNYSNA (Rex Hotel)
Visit the Garden of Eden, set in the lush, indigenous Knysna forest,
and Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary. Continue to the famous Eastern
Head with spectacular views of the Knysna Heads (weather permitting)
and finally to Brenton on Sea, with its unspoilt beaches and peaceful
surroundings. Rest of day at leisure.

DAY 11: KNYSNA to PORT ELIZABETH
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred (unescorted, driver only) to Port Elizabeth. You’ll head eastwards along the Tsitsikamma Forest to Port Elizabeth, known as the “friendly city”, with a wonderful climate. The tour ends on arrival in Port Elizabeth. Guests may disembark, on request, at Port Elizabeth Airport.
